Stretta is an option for patients with mild to moderate GERD, who have inadequate symptom control on drug therapy, are intolerant of these type of medications and desire a less invasive option than anti-reflux surgery. Stretta has a significantly lower complication rate and fewer associated morbidities than surgery. In addition, for those patients who are still symptomatic after Stretta, surgery remains an option.

More specifically, the ideal Stretta patient:
- Has a less than 3 cm hiatal hernia
- Has a less than 3 cm diaphragmatic hiatus
- Has non-erosive or non-ulcerative esophagitis not responding to drugs
- Has extra-esophageal manifestations of GERD with symptom correlation on 24 hour impedance/pH studies
- Has reflux related gastroparesis

Stretta has also been shown to be effective in many patients who have no other options.
- Non-Erosive Reflux (NERD) sufferers with hyper-sensitive esophagus. PPIs don’t work in these patients because they do not reflux acid.
- Patients with GERD after Gastric Bypass
- Has failed Nissen fundoplication and demonstrated GERD with symptom correlation on 24 hour impedance/pH studies
